Congresswoman Veronica Escobar has voiced her concerns regarding the Trump administration’s acceptance of Texas land for deportation efforts, highlighting numerous uncertainties surrounding the initiative.
The Jocelyn Initiative, led by the Texas General Land Office, plans to make 1,400 acres available for deportation sites across Texas, including El Paso.
Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced the initiative in late November, naming it after Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old Houston girl allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by two migrant men.
The General Land Office has indicated that the land available in El Paso is in the east area, though the exact location remains undisclosed.
