Amid significant public opposition, a development company owned by Texas billionaire brothers Dan and Farris Wilks has delayed its plans for a 1,130-unit project in Valley County, Idaho. The company, DF Development, announced it would not present the proposal at a public meeting as initially scheduled.
Christine Richman, a spokesperson for the project, stated in an email to Valley County Planning and Zoning (P&Z) staff that the company is reviewing community feedback. To address concerns, DF Development plans to hold town halls and outreach meetings in early 2025. As a result, they have requested to postpone the hearing on the proposal until mid-2025.
The project, RedRidge Village, has received considerable opposition. A report from Valley County staff noted 114 letters against the proposal, six with suggestions, and just one in support. The development was slated for discussion at a P&Z meeting in Cascade before being postponed.
RedRidge Village would span 2,258 acres near McCall, about 100 miles north of Boise. This development is only a small portion of a much larger 30,000-acre project extending south of New Meadows in Adams County.
DF Development, which purchased 172,000 acres in central Idaho in 2016, has since sold and developed smaller parcels of land. However, the RedRidge Village project is the largest and most ambitious proposal the company has pursued to date.
