Governor Abbott Highlights Texas’ Thriving Energy Sector at Dallas Citizens Council

Governor Greg Abbott emphasized Texas’ thriving energy sector during a fireside chat at the Dallas Citizens Council’s 2024 Annual Meeting. He praised the state’s leadership in energy production, attributing its success to the dedication of industry workers.

“Texas ranks as the fourth-largest oil producer globally,” Abbott noted, highlighting the state’s comprehensive energy approach. He also pointed out Texas’ top positions in wind power generation and utility-scale solar capacity. Abbott reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing grid capacity and advancing Texas’ nuclear energy industry to ensure affordable and reliable power for all residents and businesses.

Speaking to an audience of over 800 entrepreneurs and community leaders, Abbott celebrated Texas’ status as the energy capital of the world. He also outlined the state’s efforts to establish itself as the hub for nuclear energy supply chains, aiming to bolster the grid’s resilience and sustainability.

The Governor highlighted other critical infrastructure initiatives, including the Water For Texas Fund, created by Senate Bill 28. Signed into law last year, the $1 billion investment aims to develop seven million acre-feet of new water supplies over the next decade to meet the state’s growing demands.

During the event, Governor Abbott was joined by Dallas Citizens Council Former Chairman Rob Walters and Energy Transfer Executive Chairman Kelcy Warren, who engaged in discussions about Texas’ future in energy and infrastructure development.
